How I Used the Settings Font to Bring a Handmade Brand to Life

Starting with a Blank Canvas

When I first opened the brand board for a new client—a small, artisanal candle shop tucked into a local market—I knew the typography would set the tone. The brand needed something warm, inviting, and personal. That’s when I remembered Settings, a sweet and friendly handwritten font I’d seen in a design roundup. It had that “fresh and neat” look I was after—something that felt handmade without being too loose or casual.

I dropped it into a logo mockup on a whim. Just a simple wordmark, no extra effects. Instantly, the design felt more human. It wasn’t too formal, but it wasn’t childish either. It had just the right balance of charm and professionalism.

What Makes Settings Stand Out

Settings is a script font that leans into a clean, modern handwritten style. It’s not overly ornate like some calligraphy fonts, nor is it as rigid as a traditional script. The letterforms have a gentle bounce and a slightly bolder baseline, which gives it a sense of stability while still feeling playful. This makes it perfect for brands that want to feel approachable, creative, and sincere.

Its personality is unmistakable—sweet, a little nostalgic, and very personable. It’s the kind of typeface that feels like a handwritten note from a friend. If your brand is all about warmth, craftsmanship, or community, this is a font that can speak that language visually.

Testing the Font Across Brand Touchpoints

Once I saw how well it worked in the logo, I started testing Settings across other brand materials. I dropped it into packaging mockups for candle labels, and it immediately gave them that boutique feel the client was aiming for. On a product label, the font’s clarity and spacing made it surprisingly legible—even at smaller sizes.

I also tried it in social media templates. For Instagram stories and carousel posts, it added a personal, handcrafted vibe that stood out in the feed without being hard to read. I made sure to use it sparingly—mostly for headlines or short phrases—since it’s best suited for short-form text.

When designing the brand’s business cards, I used Settings for the business name and paired it with a clean sans serif for the contact info. The contrast worked beautifully. It gave the card a modern yet personable feel, which aligned perfectly with the brand’s handmade aesthetic.

Where Settings Shines—and Where It Doesn’t

This font really comes into its own as a display font or headline font. It’s not ideal for long paragraphs or body copy, but it’s perfect for logos, packaging accents, greeting cards, and branding headers. I found it worked especially well in logo design and product labeling, where a bit of personality goes a long way.

One thing I kept in mind: readability. While Settings is very neat for a handwritten font, it still has natural ligatures and stylistic alternates that can get a bit busy if overused. So I made sure to test it in different contexts—like signage or printed posters—before committing fully.

Font Pairing Made Easy

Pairing Settings with the right secondary typeface was key to balancing the brand’s visual identity. Since it’s a script font with a casual feel, I chose a soft sans serif as the brand’s body font. The contrast between the two created a nice rhythm across the materials—Settings handled the emotional tone, while the sans serif grounded everything in clarity and professionalism.

I also considered pairing it with a serif font for more editorial-style layouts, like packaging inserts or blog headers. That worked well too, especially with a lighter serif that matched the font’s delicate texture.

Technical Details That Matter

Before finalizing the brand system, I checked the font’s full character set. Settings includes a good range of stylistic alternates, ligatures, and multilingual support—which was a bonus since the client occasionally sells to international customers. The font also came in both OTF and TTF formats, making it easy to use across design platforms.

Licensing was another important check. Since the client intended to use the font across print and digital assets—including packaging, social media, and merchandise—I made sure the license allowed for commercial use. Always a smart step when choosing a premium font for client work.

Final Thoughts: A Font That Adds Soul

By the time we launched the brand, I could see how much Settings had contributed to the overall tone. It gave the identity a sense of warmth and authenticity that resonated with the target audience. Whether on a candle label, a thank-you card, or a homepage hero section, the font felt like a natural extension of the brand’s story.

If you’re working on a branding project for a small business, boutique, or creative studio, and you’re looking for a handwritten font that feels both fresh and friendly, I’d definitely recommend testing Settings. It’s a great choice for adding a personal touch without sacrificing professionalism.

As with any script font, the key is to use it thoughtfully—pair it well, test it across formats, and let it enhance the brand’s personality rather than overpower it. Done right, it can become the quiet heartbeat of a visual identity that feels truly human.
